About District 77 of Rowan County
As a quiet incubator for business development such as Food Lion and Cheerwine, Salisbury has one of the most modern Chamber of Commerce buildings for which our candidate gave the first dollars. North Carolina United States Senator Elizabeth Dole calls Salisbury home and Andrew Jackson had a law practice here before he assumed the presidency of the United States of America. As in so many of North Carolina counties, health care is a dominant industry featuring the Rowan Regional Medical Center, a Community Care Clinic which provides services to those unable to pay and the W. G. “Bill” Hefner Veterans Affairs Medical Center. A city known for its magnanimous spirit, it would be hard to spot the numerous millionaires who walk among us even on such special occasions as “Lord Salisbury Day.” Two four year institutions—Catawba College and Livingstone College are joined by the Hood Theological Seminary and Rowan Cabarrus Community College as educational anchors for the aspirations of our citizens. Over 20,000 students are enrolled in the primary and secondary schools with additional choices from religious schools, an alternative high school, a community’s in school program and the Rowan Salisbury Community Action Agency which extends a helping hand for drop-outs and those needing extra assistance with their lives. Teasingly many refer to our beloved hometown as “Smallsbury” for Salisbury is not only the Rowan County county seat, but a growing thriving community with a small town feel which is a great place to raise a family and to sit down and stay awhile. It would also be so easy to overlook Rowan County's rustic beautiful charm which borders farms of varying make-up and size. Within the boundaries of NC House District 77 can be found the communities of Atwell, Cleveland, a small portion of China Grove, East Spencer, Franklin, Locke, Mt. Ulla, the city of Salisbury, Scotch Irish, Spencer, Steele, and is complete with Unity. This district also sits in the 12th United States Congressional District. Those living in the 77th District can vote at the following precincts and polling places:
