Salisbury,
NC -- Dr. Ada M. Fisher, Republican candidate for the NC House
District 77 seat, was honored with the Koontz Humanitarian Award of the
Salisbury-Rowan Human Relations Council along with previous VA co-worker
Ollie Mae Carroll and a dear friend who she nominated William C.
Stanback. The Humanitarian Awards Banquet was held Thursday, February
28, 2008 in the Salisbury Civic Center where Mrs. Jylla Moore-Foster,

of inspiration.
Fisher and
the other recipients were cited on their plaques “For Contributions Made
Toward Improving Human Relations And Exemplifying The Ideal of “Libby”
Koontz through Humanitarian Services In Your Community.” Dr. Fisher’s
submission by Mrs. Joann P. Diggs, Workforce Job Training Director of
the Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency, Inc. notes “With her busy
schedule, Dr. Fisher still finds time to serve as a Mentor and Job Coach
for the out-of-School youth enrolled in the WIA (Workforce Investment
Act) Program” . . .”She provides counseling, tutoring, transportation to
college/university visits . . .assists with countless completion of
college applications and telephone referrals,” and “is an outspoken
advocate as it relates to at-risk student. If ever an individual
exemplified the concept of service above self, it is Dr. Ada M. Fisher
who not only gives generously of her time and money, but who thinks
ahead to the future going to serve without waiting to be called.”
Dr. Fisher
thanked the council and those in attendance acknowledging the presence
of her oldest son, Shevin M. Fisher as well as thanked the students who
have allowed her into their lives and taught her so much. She beckoned
the crowd that young people today are not a lost generation but are
becoming a wasted generation due to the lack of our presence in their
lives. |
