Salisbury, North Carolina ---
Retired VA Service Line Director and member of the Retired Federal
Employees group, Dr. Ada M. Fisher of Rowan County, the Republican
candidate for NC House District 77 seat addressed her colleagues at
their May meeting. Speaking on events at the national and state levels,
Fisher pointed out that this may be one of the more significant races
across the board in her forty plus years of voting. Addressing the
issue of retirees and their burgeoning numbers as it impacts this group
which represents more than 30% of the population, she admonished them to
ask how are the promises being made going to be paid for and who will
make sure they are kept. Advocating elimination of the social security
tax for retirees, as well as an adjustment of the Alternative Minimum
Tax nationally, Fisher said the state needs to look at fixing rates on
retiree and fixed income individuals less they be forced from their
homes. In addition, the effects of Forced Annexation and the Kelo
decision on property holders is per Fisher an assault on the
constitutional concerns for the rights of property holders.
An environmentalist by training
and previous medical director of Amoco Oil Company, Dr. Fisher discusses
the price of gas and the impact of our gas tax and its lack of use as
designated to fix our roads and bridges which would make us “The Good
Roads State” she remembers from childhood.
