Salisbury,
NC –
On October 3,
2008 at the Ronald Reagan High School in Winston Salem, North Carolina,
in her first NC Republican Party Central Committee and Executive
Committee meeting since being elected its National Committee Woman, Dr.
Ada M. Fisher, NC House District 77 Republican Candidate brought
greetings. Her comments on the Republican National Convention noted the
electrifying speeches of Gov. Sarah Palin who will be in Greenville, NC
in an East Carolina University facility which will accommodate over
8,000. Fisher noted the compassion and vision of Senator John S. McCain
as he seeks to lead this nation back to prosperity and peace.
Fisher also
reflected on some nasty trends she sees developing in this election
season and asked that Republicans remain above the fray and display
dignity and respect. “Don’t let it be us who start the mess.” She
cited her experience at the recent Rowan County Fair where a gentleman
pushing Gideon Bibles tried to pull her away from the Republican booth
stating she needed to get over to the Obama/Democratic booth where she
belonged. This harassment continued for more than five minutes. Rowan
County Chairman Stephen Kidd verified as did she that Dr. Fisher has
been a Republican for over forty years and was not only a candidate but
the state’s Republican National Committee Woman. “I guess folks aren’t
use to seeing a Black Republican,” notes Dr. Fisher.
Unfortunately on
that same day, two Livingstone College students who are registered
democrats, who had previously asked to participate in Fisher’s campaign
as well as that for US 12th Congressional District Ty Cobb,
were called ‘Uncle Toms’ and ‘niggers’ by a black democrat who would not
accept that they were political interns seeking course credit for their
campaign experiences. Dr. Fisher stated this race is getting nasty and
she doesn’t expect Republicans to participate in the more un-seemingly
sides of it. Sadly on returning from the state Republican Party
meeting Fisher would witness that many of her signs were pulled down and
destroyed.
Dr. Fisher
continues to advocate that calmer heads must prevail and violence be
avoided. She has written that . . . on November 5th
regardless of who is elected, we will must be unified as Americans and
move on with the job of restoring stability in our nation.”
